Chemisorbant Media

PureAir’s Chemisorbant Media captures and eliminates problematic gases, vapors, and odors, providing cost-effective solutions tailored to specific applications. The main gases targeted by PureAir’s media include ammonia, hydrogen sulfide, sulfur dioxide, nitric oxide, formaldehyde, and chlorine. Each type of chemisorbant media is designed to handle different types of contaminants, ensuring optimal performance for various industrial and environmental needs.

The activated alumina-based media options include PureAir 4, PureAir 8, PureAir 12, Alumina, Safetysorb, and Siloxsorb. These media are highly effective for capturing a wide range of gases in diverse settings. For clay and mineral-based media, PureAir offers PureAir Z, PureAir 6Z, and Sulphasorb Fe™, which are designed for targeted gas removal and protection.

Engineered carbon-based options such as AC-C, AC-X, Ammoniasorb®, NOXsorb, Sulphasorb XL™, Sulphasorb FeXL, and Sulphasorb 2™ provide advanced filtration for more challenging environments. In addition, blended media solutions like PureAir CP Blend, CPS Blend, CPS12 Blend, CPZ Blend, PP Blend, TriBlend, and VOCsorb Blend offer customizable protection for specific applications.

PureAir’s chemisorbant media can be incorporated into various housings and filters, including loose media (available by the box or supersack), PurePak (PP12/PP18) modules, honeycomb filters, pleated media filters, and canisters. This versatility ensures reliable, long-lasting filtration and protection from harmful gases and odors in diverse environments.

Impregnated Activated

Impregnated Activated Alumina Media

PureAir Filtration employs the highest-grade activated alumina, impregnated with potassium permanganate, to enhance adsorption capacity and neutralize harmful gases and vapors. The absorbent media line includes PureAir 4, PureAir 8, and PureAir 12, offering exceptional performance for a range of industrial applications.

PureAir Filtration’s PureAir 4 utilizes high-grade activated alumina impregnated with potassium permanganate for superior gas and vapor neutralization. This 4mm sphere media has a density of 800 kg/m³ (50 lbs/ft³), a surface area of 350 m²/g, and 20% moisture content. It withstands 40-60 lbs in crush tests and has an abrasion loss of under 3%. Non-ignitable with a 4% minimum permanganate content, PureAir 4 efficiently removes hydrogen sulfide (0.07 g/cc), sulfur dioxide (4%), nitric oxide (2.85%), nitrogen dioxide (10%), and formaldehyde (1.4%), making it highly effective for industrial air filtration.

PureAir 8 is designed to offer nearly double the capacity of PureAir 4, meeting UL certification standards. It features 4mm spheres with a density of 800 kg/m³ (50 lbs/ft³) and a surface area of 350 m²/g. With 20% moisture content, it can withstand 40-60 lbs in crush tests and has an abrasion loss of less than 3%. Non-ignitable, PureAir 8 excels in removing contaminants such as hydrogen sulfide (14% by weight or 0.112 g/cc), sulfur dioxide (7%), nitric oxide (5%), formaldehyde (2.5%), and nitrogen dioxide (20.96%), making it ideal for high-capacity air filtration applications.

PureAir 12 offers 50% greater capacity than PureAir 8 and three times the capacity of PureAir 4, while maintaining UL certification. This media features 4mm spheres with a density of 800 kg/m³ (50 lbs/ft³), a surface area of 350 m²/g, 20% moisture content, and a crush strength of 40-60 lbs, with an abrasion loss of less than 3%. 

Non-ignitable, PureAir 12 is highly efficient in removing hydrogen sulfide (23% by weight), sulfur dioxide (11%), nitric oxide (8.2%), nitrogen dioxide (32%), and formaldehyde (4.5%), making it ideal for demanding air purification applications.

Alumina

PureAir's Alumina Adsorbent Media is an inert, porous substance widely used for gas phase filtration and as a desiccant in air drying applications due to its hygroscopic nature. It is engineered to perform effectively in both PureAir and other manufacturers' systems, targeting broad-range gas removal and VOCs.This media features particle sizes ranging from 1/16" to 9/32" with a density of 39-40 lbs/ft³ (624-641 kg/m³). Its removal capability includes 99% Alâ‚‚O₃ by weight, with a loss on ignition (LOI) of 5%. It also offers a surface area of 345 m²/g, a crush strength of 35 lbs (14 kg), and a total pore volume of 0.55 cc/g.

Siloxsorb

PureAir's Siloxsorb adsorbent media is an inert, porous material used in a range of adsorption applications, specifically designed to target siloxanes and highly polar molecules. It is engineered to perform effectively in both PureAir and other manufacturers' systems.

This media features particle sizes ranging from 1/8" to 9/32" with a density of 39 lbs/ft³ (624 kg/m³). It provides a removal capability of at least 99% Alâ‚‚O₃ by weight, with a loss on ignition (LOI) of 5%. The media also offers a surface area of 345 m²/g, a crush strength of 35 lbs (14 kg), and a total pore volume of 0.55 cc/g.

Activated Carbon Media

Activated carbons are among the most cost-effective solutions for gas removal. They serve as highly efficient adsorbents, capable of purifying both air and water by removing particles, organics, and odors. Activated carbon is one of the best materials for reducing risks to human health and is also aesthetically pleasing due to its versatility. Different types of activated carbon offer specific benefits, with PureAir providing AC-X type carbon as a standard unless otherwise specified.

The product specifications for PureAir’s AC-X activated carbon include a density of 480 kg/m³ and a surface area of 1100 m²/g. It typically has a moisture content of 5% and a crush strength of 95 lbs, with a maximum abrasion loss of 3%. The ignition temperature is at least 425°C, and it features a CTC value of 70% and an iodine number of 1100 mg/g, with ash content not exceeding 5%. The butane activity is a minimum of 27%.

PureAir offers two main types of activated carbon for gas removal. The AC-X extruded activated carbon, known for its cylindrical shape and economical performance, is a standard for its low dust levels and high activity. It comes in a 4 mm diameter cylinder shape. The AC-C coconut shell carbon, made from coconut shells, is renowned as one of the finest materials for air purification, with perfectly sized pores for capturing various gases and odors. However, it has a higher pressure drop (1.8” per foot at 70 fpm) and is available in a 3x8 mesh size.

Both products offer effective removal capabilities, including 6.6% by weight for nitric dioxide, 10% by weight for chlorine, and 20% by weight for dichloroethane.

Activated Carbon

Ammoniasorb

Ammoniasorb is designed for the effective adsorption of amines and other base compounds, including ammonia. It is derived from a highly activated carbon produced through steam activation of selected anthracite coal grades, ensuring exceptional hardness and mechanical resistance. This material achieves an optimal balance between adsorption and transportation pores, allowing for efficient adsorption across a range of applications.

The product specifications for Ammoniasorb® include a particle size of 4 mm in diameter, a density of 576 kg/m³ (36 lbs/ft³), and a surface area of 1100 m²/g. It typically contains 15% moisture, with a crush strength of 97 lbs and a maximum abrasion loss of 3%. The carbon has a carbon tetrachloride (CTC) value of 70%, an iodine number of 1100 mg/g, and an ash content of no more than 5%. Additionally, it has a butane activity of 27%. In terms of removal capability, Ammoniasorb® can effectively remove ammonia at a rate of 15% by weight.

Sulphasorb XL

Sulphasorb XL was developed to provide customers with extended life and exceptional performance in capturing hydrogen sulfide (Hâ‚‚S), with a capacity two to three times higher than competing products. Unlike many alternatives, PureAir does not impregnate this carbon, allowing it to perform exceptionally well in both PureAir scrubbers and as a replacement media in scrubbers from other manufacturers. With a particle size of 4mm in diameter, Sulphasorb XL™ has a density of 480 kg/m³ (30 lbs/ft³) and a surface area of 1100 m²/g. Its typical moisture content is 5%, and it passes a crush test of 97 lbs with a maximum abrasion loss of 3%. The ignition temperature exceeds 400°C, and it has a CTC value of 70%, an iodine number of 1100 mg/g, and an ash content of no more than 5%. Additionally, Sulphasorb XL™ has an impressive hydrogen sulfide removal capability of approximately 66% by weight.

Sulphasorb FeXL

​Sulphasorb FeXL  is a 50/50 blend of Sulphasorb XL™ and Sulphasorb Fe™, offering enhanced odor control capabilities. Its ability to remove 45% of its weight in hydrogen sulfide (Hâ‚‚S) positions it significantly above traditional activated carbon options. Formulated from a high-iron content compound, Sulphasorb FeXL™ is odorless and has a distinctive brown/orange appearance, making it an ideal choice for odor control scrubbers in environments where Hâ‚‚S levels exceed 50 ppm. Typically used as a roughing filter in conjunction with other PureAir adsorbents, it provides an effective and cost-efficient solution for complete odor removal. Sulphasorb FeXL™ features particle sizes of 4-5mm in cylindrical shapes and has a density of 640 kg/m³ (40 lbs/ft³). Specifications regarding its surface area, typical moisture content, crush test results, abrasion loss percentage, and CTC value align with those of the base products. The removal capability for hydrogen sulfide is approximately 0.30 g/cc, equating to 45% by weight.

Sulphasorb XL

Sulphasorb XL was developed to provide customers with extended life and exceptional performance in capturing hydrogen sulfide (Hâ‚‚S), with a capacity two to three times higher than competing products. Sulphasorb 2

PureAir Sulphasorb 2 is specifically designed to target acidic gases, with a primary focus on hydrogen sulfide (Hâ‚‚S). This product maintains the same volumetric capacity (0.15 g/cc) as the original Sulphasorb™, while also offering enhanced fire resistance. PureAir begins with high-grade activated carbon and activated alumina, which are then impregnated with a caustic compound and a proprietary reagent to effectively neutralize acidic gases. This formulation ensures optimal performance not only in PureAir systems but also in those manufactured by other companies.

The product specifications for Sulphasorb 2™ include a particle size of 4mm and a density of 690 kg/m³ (43 lbs/ft³). It has a typical moisture content of 15%, with a crush test range of 35 lbs to 70 lbs and a maximum abrasion loss of 4%. The CTC value is 70%, and it has a minimum butane activity of 27%. Its removal capabilities are noteworthy, allowing for the adsorption of hydrogen sulfide at 0.15 g/cc (approximately 26% by weight), along with sulfur dioxide at 10% by weight and chlorine at 14% by weight.

NOXsorb

NOXsorb was specifically developed to address the growing global concerns surrounding the health risks associated with NOX gases, which include Nitrogen Oxide (NO), Nitrogen Dioxide (NO₂), and Nitrogen Trioxide (NO₃). As the only product on the market that makes significant reductions in overall NOX levels, NOXsorb offers an extended product life and enhanced performance in environments where NOX emissions are a concern.

The product specifications of NOXsorb include a particle size of 4mm diameter in cylinder form, a density of 576 kg/m³ (36 lbs/ft³), and a surface area of 1100 m²/g. It has a typical moisture content of 35%, with a crush strength of 97 lbs and an abrasion loss of 3% max. Additional specifications include a CTC value of 70%, an iodine number of 1100 mg/g, and a maximum ash content of 5%. NOXsorb also has a minimum butane activity of 27%. Its removal capability for NOX gases is up to 35% by weight, making it an effective solution for managing NOX emissions.

PP Blend

PP Blend adsorbent media is a specialized 50/50 mixture of PureAir 8, which is potassium permanganate-based, and Sulphasorb 2™, engineered for the efficient removal of corrosive gases commonly encountered in the Pulp & Paper, Petrochemical, and Refinery industries. This blend provides excellent performance in capturing a range of harmful gases and meets the requirements for UL certification.

The product specifications of PP Blend align with those of the base products, with a density of 735 kg/m³ (46 lbs/ft³) and other technical characteristics similar to its individual components. The removal capacities include hydrogen sulfide at 19.0% by weight, sulfur dioxide at 7.0%, nitric oxide at 2.5%, nitrogen dioxide at 14.95%, formaldehyde at 1.5%, and chlorine at 5.9%. This tailored combination of media ensures optimal performance for industrial applications requiring robust gas removal solutions.

CP Blend

CP Blend adsorbent media combines PureAir 4, a potassium permanganate-based media, and PureAir AC, a virgin bituminous activated carbon, in a 50/50 mix. This unique blend is designed to offer comprehensive removal of corrosive, odorous, and toxic gases. Meeting the requirements for UL certification, CP Blend ensures effective gas filtration in various industrial settings.

With a density of 640 kg/m³ (40 lbs/ft³), CP Blend's removal capabilities include hydrogen sulfide at 4.0% by weight, sulfur dioxide at 4.7%, nitric oxide at 2.8%, nitrogen dioxide at 9.5%, and formaldehyde at 1.4%. This makes it a versatile solution for industries requiring wide-range gas adsorption.

CPS Blend

CPS Blend adsorbent media is a 50/50 combination of PureAir 8, a potassium permanganate-based media, and PureAir AC, a virgin bituminous activated carbon. This blend is engineered for the effective removal of a broad spectrum of corrosive, odorous, and toxic gases, making it suitable for various industrial applications. It also meets UL certification requirements.

With a density of 640 kg/m³ (40 lbs/ft³), CPS Blend efficiently removes hydrogen sulfide at 8.0% by weight, sulfur dioxide at 6.9%, nitrogen dioxide at 15.6%, and formaldehyde at 1.4%, ensuring optimal air quality and safety in demanding environments.

CPZ Blend

CPZ Blend adsorbent media is a 50/50 mix of PureAir 6Z, a zeolite impregnated with potassium permanganate, and PureAir AC, a virgin bituminous activated carbon. This formulation is designed to provide comprehensive removal of corrosive, odorous, and toxic gases, offering broad-spectrum protection. CPZ Blend media is also UL-certified, ensuring safety and reliability in various industrial applications. The product specifications include a maximum abrasion loss of 3%, a minimum ignition temperature of 425°C, a permanganate content of at least 6%, an iodine number of 1100 mg/g, a maximum ash content of 5%, and a minimum butane activity of 27%. These features ensure robust performance in demanding environments.

CPS 12

CPS12 Blend adsorbent media is a 50/50 mixture of PureAir 12, a sodium permanganate-based media, and PureAir AC-X, a virgin bituminous activated carbon. This blend is engineered for the broad-spectrum removal of corrosive, odorous, and toxic gases, making it suitable for a wide range of industrial applications. CPS12 Blend media is UL-certified, ensuring compliance with safety standards.

The product has a density of 640 kg/m³ (40 lbs/ft³) and contains a minimum of 12% permanganate. Its removal capabilities include hydrogen sulfide at 12.0% by weight, sulfur dioxide at 10.4%, nitric oxide at 2.5%, nitrogen dioxide at 23.4%, and formaldehyde at 2.1%. This ensures effective gas removal and reliable performance in harsh environments.

TriBlend

TriBlend adsorbent media is a specialized mixture consisting of 50% PureAir 8 potassium permanganate-based media, 25% Sulphasorb 2TM acid gas removal media, and 25% PureAir AC-X extruded activated carbon. This combination provides effective removal of a broad spectrum of corrosive, odorous, and toxic gases, making it highly versatile for industrial air purification applications. TriBlend media also meets UL certification standards, ensuring safety and performance.

With a density of 670 kg/m³ (42 lbs/ft³), TriBlend offers superior gas removal capabilities, including sulfur dioxide at 7.24% by weight, nitric oxide at 4.54%, nitrogen dioxide at 16.32%, formaldehyde at 4%, ozone at 10.44%, organic acids at 19.01%, and VOCs/hydrocarbons at 11.88%. This makes it a reliable choice for diverse environmental and industrial applications requiring broad-range gas adsorption.

CPS 12

CPS12 Blend adsorbent media is a 50/50 mixture of PureAir 12, a sodium permanganate-based media, and PureAir AC-X, a virgin bituminous activated carbon. This blend is engineered for the broad-spectrum removal of corrosive, odorous, and toxic gases, making it suitable for a wide range of industrial applications. CPS12 Blend media is UL-certified, ensuring compliance with safety standards.

The product has a density of 640 kg/m³ (40 lbs/ft³) and contains a minimum of 12% permanganate. Its removal capabilities include hydrogen sulfide at 12.0% by weight, sulfur dioxide at 10.4%, nitric oxide at 2.5%, nitrogen dioxide at 23.4%, and formaldehyde at 2.1%. This ensures effective gas removal and reliable performance in harsh environments.

VOCsorb

VOCsorb Blend adsorbent media is formulated as a 25% PureAir 8 potassium permanganate-based media and 75% PureAir AC-X virgin bituminous activated carbon blend. This composition ensures effective removal of a wide variety of corrosive, odorous, and toxic gases, providing broad-range gas purification. VOCsorb Blend meets UL certification standards, highlighting its safety and reliability. With a density of 560 kg/m³ (35 lbs/ft³), VOCsorb Blend offers impressive removal capabilities, including 20% by weight for volatile organic compounds (VOCs), 5% for hydrogen sulfide, 3% for sulfur dioxide, 8% for nitrogen dioxide, and 1% for formaldehyde, making it ideal for applications in environments with diverse gas contaminants.

Safteysorb

Safetysorb adsorbent media is designed for emergency chlorine release scenarios, ensuring effective gas adsorption in critical situations. It remains dormant until activated by an emergency, allowing for the evacuation of gaseous chlorine from the affected area through Safetysorb filtration.

With a particle size of 4mm spheres, this media has a density of 800 kg/m³ (50 lbs/ft³), a surface area of 350 m²/g, and a moisture content of 20%. Its crush test ranges from 35 to 70 lbs, with an abrasion loss of 4.5%. Safetysorb offers a removal capability of 15% chlorine and 7.5% fluorine by weight.

PureAir Z

Zeolite is designed to target and remove ammonia, effectively eliminating gases that contribute to corrosion and odors. Created from the earth mineral with the highest adsorption capacity, it provides a reliable solution for air purification.The media has a particle size of 3x8 mesh, a density of 800 kg/m³ (50 lbs/ft³), and a surface area of 150 m²/g. It features a typical moisture content of 15%, with a maximum abrasion loss of 3%, and is non-ignitable. Zeolite's removal capability for ammonia is 2.0% by weight.

PureAir 6Z

PureAir 6Z is designed to target a wide range of corrosive and odorous gases, utilizing zeolite, which has the highest adsorption capacity of any earth mineral. The zeolite is impregnated with potassium permanganate to enhance its gas-removal efficiency. The product features a particle size of 3 x 8 mesh, with a density of 960 kg/m³ (60 lbs/ft³) and a surface area of 150 m²/g. It contains 20% moisture and withstands a crush test of 40 to 60 lbs, with a maximum abrasion loss of 3%. PureAir 6Z is non-ignitable and contains a minimum of 6% permanganate. In terms of removal capability, it effectively removes hydrogen sulfide at a minimum of 0.04 g/cc or 4.0% by weight, sulfur dioxide at 2.0%, nitric oxide at 1.43%, nitrogen dioxide at 5%, and formaldehyde at 0.7% by weight.

Sulphasorb Fe

Sulphasorb Fe™ sets a new standard for the removal of hydrogen sulfide (Hâ‚‚S) and other odorous gases. Often used as a roughing filter in combination with other PureAir adsorbents, it provides an efficient and cost-effective solution for comprehensive odor control. The product has a particle size of 5mm and a density of 800 kg/m³ (50 lbs/ft³), with a typical moisture content of 5% and a maximum abrasion loss of 5%. In terms of removal capability, Sulphasorb Fe™ removes hydrogen sulfide at a rate of 0.30 g/cc or 25% by weight.
